This Windows Directory Statistics program is completely free; it shouldn’t be, given how great it is, but it is. To make it work its magic, you just download a single file—that’s it. Though we wish there was a portable version of WinDirStat, the installation process doesn’t take very long (and barely any space). When you close out of the installation routine, WinDirStat loads by default.
On start up, it reads the whole directory tree once and then presents it in three useful views:

The directory list, which resembles the tree view of the Windows Explorer but is sorted by file/subtree size,
The treemap, which shows the whole contents of the directory tree straight away,
The extension list, which serves as a legend and shows statistics about the file types.
